The Justice League Will Meet Their Doom Next Month!

Posted by SOS Staff On January - 17 - 2012

Justice League Doom finds Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Cyborg and Batman on their heels when a team of super villains discover and implement the Dark Knight's "contingency plans" for stopping any rogue Justice League member. The story is inspired by Mark Waid's much-heralded "JLA: Tower of Babel."

Why the World Still Needs Superman Returns

Posted by SOS Staff On January - 16 - 2012

IndieWire has released a video essay in defense of 2006 Film. Exploring different themes and concepts the average movie goer might have missed.  Maybe we can all agree Returns had flaws but was it true to the Superman Character? You be the judge.

Green Arrow Series Coming to the CW?

Posted by SOS Staff On January - 13 - 2012

A "Green Arrow" television series is being planned for The CW with Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim and Andrew Kreisberg writing and executive producing, EW reports.

Dating all the way back to 1941 when he made his first appearance in "More Fun Comics" #73, Oliver Queen is a billionaire who leads a double life as expert archer and costumed hero Green Arrow. Over the years, Queen has been a member of the Justice League and even Mayor of his hometown, Star City.

Justin Hartley previously played a television version of the character on "Smallville", becoming a regular cast member in later seasons. It's not mentioned whether or not the new series will connect in any way, but it is noted that Hartley is not being sought to play the role at this time.

"Green Arrow" isn't the only DC superhero being planned for the small screen. Plans for a "Booster Gold" pilot were announced late last year with "Blue Beetle," "Deadman" and "Spectre" series still believed to be in various stages of development. Of course, just because a network expresses an interest in a pilot doesn't mean that a series will see the light of day, as was the case with last year's proposed "Wonder Woman" series.

Production continues on Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman cinematic franchise, Man Of Steel, and it turns out that there’s still room for a bit of extra casting. Variety is reporting that The West Wing star Richard Schiff (last seen in Johnny English Reborn) has signed up to play Doctor Emil Hamilton in the movie. The Doctor Hamilton in question is believed to be Emil Hamilton from the comics, although whether he’ll be spun as friend or foe of Superman’s isn’t clear. In recent years, Hamilton has been more of the latter than the former. The film is set for release on June 14th 2013. What do you guys think? Are we going to see S.T.A.R Labs in the film with possible Superman experimentation?!

Behind-the-Scene footage of Erica Durance as Wonder Woman!!

Posted by SOS Staff On January - 9 - 2012

OK folks listen up, Erica Durance is not only set to guest star in this week's episode of NBC's "Harry's Law," she's also appearing as Wonder Woman. Sort of. Durance, best known for starring as Lois Lane on "Smallville," will be playing a woman named Annie Bilson who is on trial for vigilantism. Her character just happens to take to the streets dressed as the Themysciran princess and the show, created by David E. Kelley, is making use of the costume that was designed for his never-aired "Wonder Woman" pilot. (You can check out that show's would-be star, Adrianne Palicki, modeling the costume in an image released last year). The episode, airing this Wednesday, January 11th at 9:00pm ET, actually marks the second time that Durance has donned a Wonder Woman outfit for television. As Lois Lane, she wore a different take on the costume in the 2010 "Smallville" episode "Warrior," identifying herself as an "Amazon Princess" when the character headed to a comic book convention. Now, watch the footage and try not to drool on your keyboard!

Over Two Million People like Batman (nice)

Posted by SOS Staff On January - 6 - 2012

DC announced this week that their "Batman Facebook page crossed the 2 million Likes mark. More than 2 million people have signaled that they are fans of the Caped Crusader, a sentiment we whole-heartedly agree with.

It’s no surprise that so many people feel this way. BATMAN continues to be one of the most popular comic characters ever created, with top-selling and popular books BATMAN, DETECTIVE COMICS, BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT and BATMAN AND ROBIN leading the way. And with CATWOMAN, BATWING, BATGIRL and BATWOMAN rounding out the BATMAN family – the whole line is really on a tear, backed by some of the best creative talent in the industry including Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Tony Daniel, and David Finch, among many others.

All this combined with the huge amount of anticipation for this summer’s theatrical release of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, and the recent critical acclaim and blockbuster sales of the BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY video game, it’s no wonder we crossed the 2 million mark.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who’s Liked Batman (or SupermanThe FlashGreen LanternWonder Woman orAquaman – even counting DC ComicsVertigo Comics and DC Direct) on Facebook. Doing so is the best way to stay in touch with the news, reviews, previews and interviews that are published throughout the day on those pages.
