Superman Beyond #1 Released Today

Posted by SOS Staff On April - 18 - 2012

Building on the already established line of Beyond comics, such as Batman Beyond and Justice League Beyond, DC Comics kicks off Superman Beyond with the first digital issue available later today on the DC Digital applications. Superman Beyond #1 focuses on the Superman of the future, set in the Beyond continuity and is written by J.T. Krul with art by Howard Porter and Livesay. Below is DC’s complete description of Superman Beyond along with a sneak peek at a page from the first issue, on sale later today.

"SUPERMAN BEYOND The Man of Tomorrow returns home to an unfamiliar City of Tomorrow patrolled by super-powered police officers. With almost all of his friends and loved ones gone, he wonders if Superman has a place in this new world. But time and death hold no meaning for his greatest enemy who has set a plan in motion to destroy the Man of Steel once and for all. This book is part of the ongoing digital-first BEYOND series (BATMAN BEYOND, JUSTICE LEAGUE BEYOND, and print collection BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED)."

The Check that bought Superman went for 160K on auction!

Posted by SOS Staff On April - 18 - 2012

It took 56 bids, but a check endorsed by the creators of Superman that conceded the ownership rights to the character went for $160,000 at auction at Comicconnect.com.

The check was issued by Detective Comics Inc. and was for $420, which included $130 for the rights to Superman, $210 for stories in Detective Comics, and two $36 payments for stories in More Fun and Adventure Comics. It was made out – incorrectly – to Seigel and Schuster, misspellings of the surnames of Jerome Siegel and Joe Shuster, the writer and artist team who created Superman.

The back of the check is endorsed by each man twice – first with their names spelled incorrectly and then accurately. The auction began on March 26. The signing away of the rights to Superman long plagued his creators, and their heirs have been waging a court battle to restore their claim on the copyright. In March 2008 a federal judge in Los Angeles ruled that the heirs of Mr. Siegel were entitled to claim a share of the United States copyright to the Superman character. Time Warner, which owns DC Comics, would keep the international rights to the character.

Superman’s New Duds Q&A

Posted by SOS Staff On March - 30 - 2012

The folks at ComicBook.com raised a few questions about the NEW Krptonian Armor/Costume. However, they neglected to provide any answers to these questions!

So here at SOS, We are here with some answers for you!

  • (Q#1) Can the costume change color? It was originally white, and then changed to red, blue, and yellow when Superman put it on. Why did it change? Will he be able to make it change color at will? For example, if Superman decided to go deer hunting, might we see a camouflage costume?

First Earth 2 Superman Concept Drawing

Posted by SOS Staff On March - 3 - 2012

"Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways. “Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson. “What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

Here’s a first look at the Superman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee."

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 27 - 2012

A new era begins with the debut of the oversized, monthly BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED, featuring the print debut of the new Justice League Beyond!

In the Batman Beyond chapter, legendary Batman artist Norm Breyfogle returns to draw the Dark Knight of the future with best-selling writer Adam Beechen. In “10,000 Clowns,” an onslaught of new Jokerz is plaguing Gotham City – and the implications of this chaotic clown menace could have disastrous consequences for Terry McGinnis and Bruce Wayne! And the debut of the Justice League Beyond is here, courtesy of the BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM art team of Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs, as the first two digital-first chapters are available in print for the first time! Batman Beyond is a new recruit in the mighty Justice League, but the team will be immediately tested by a very Neo Gotham-related enemy! How will the team work together to combat this threat?
