Superman as Mr. Potato Head? Thanks Hasbro!

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 12 - 2012

Today at Toy Fair in New York City, new Mr. Potato Head collectible figures of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are making their debut courtesy of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and PPW Toys, under a licensing agreement with Hasbro. It marks the first time DC Comics characters are receiving the Potato Head treatment.

The first one being released is Batman (aka "The Caped Cru-tater") this summer, timed to the release of The Dark Knight Rises in theaters July 20. Superman — with his trademark twirl of hair — and Wonder Woman, who is sporting a classic costume complete with truth lasso, will be available during the holiday season.

Even better for comic-book fans: More heroes and some villains from the DC Universe are being planned for release in 2013.

This year is the 60th anniversary of Mr. Potato Head, which has become a classic toy over the decades with its interchangeable limbs and accessories — a feature the DC Comics toys will have, as well.

Mr. Potato Head has made its way into many geek-friendly properties in recent years. There has been a popular line of Star Wars Potato Heads in stores and at Disney theme parks, Indiana Jones and Transformers spuds, and other superhero Potato Heads based on Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Lego will release a line of DC Universe Super Heroes figures and playsets in January 2012 (Sorry, not in time for the holidays!).

For Superman fans there's a "Superman vs. Power Armor Lex" set featuring minifigures of Superman, Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman. Superman's arch enemy Lex Luthor has built a kryptonite-powered robot and has captured Wonder Woman.

Can Superman dodge the strength-sapping power of Luthor's kryptonite gun and make light work of his evil nemesis??!

Lego Batman 2 Will Have Super New Characters

Posted by SOS Staff On December - 9 - 2011

A Sequel to 2009's LEGO Batman has been known since the summer, around the time LEGO and DC Comics (and Marvel) were revealing their plans for more super heroes in the toy line. Now a LEGO fan site says the title will be something like "LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" .

That's Superman, Luthor and a tiny Joker  in the background of the box shot, showing Batman in what appears to be the Michael Keaton-style all-black batsuit. Other reports have said Green Lantern and Wonder Woman will appeear in the game, due for release next year.
