Superman Goes to Court, Again!

Posted by SOS Staff On August - 15 - 2009

Yet another thing Superman and I have in common! ;)

If you haven’t heard or been following the case lately, Let me sum it up for you. The whole court case is really to determine how much money Warner Bros. and DC owe the Siegel Family from profits they collected from Superman since 1999. And to make matters worse, copyright law will give the Siegel family full ownership of Superman in 2013. This is the date that matters, because after 2013, the Siegels could bring the property to other movie and television studios. So if Warner Bros wants to produce a new Superman movie before they are forced to pay major bucks for the rights, they will need to go into production by 2011."

Could Superman go where no one has gone before?

Kevin Smith was interviewed recently and basically said, with the success of Star Trek, J.J. Abrams would be a great candidate to take on the Superman Franchise. Smith also said Abrams would be the one to give Superman that "human touch" that he was lacking in Returns.

“Superman Unleashed”

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 22 - 2009

They were going to go with "Superman Returns, again" but thought unleashed sounded slightly better…..

We discovered a password protected page from the official Legendary Pictures website that lists “Superman Unleashed” as one of their upcoming films in development. The basic plot outline is:

“Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’ promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.”

No word on the cast or crew but seeing as its a sequel to Superman Returns its highly likely they will return.

Also, we still don’t know who will direct the project, however it does look like Bryan Singer will not return for this one.

Will Superman ever “fly” again??!

Posted by SOS Staff On September - 27 - 2008

James Marsden, who played Cyclops in the X-Men movies and the boyfriend of Lois Lane in Superman Returns, explains why he thinks Superman didn’t fly with the next generation of movie goers.

He basically believes Superman’s fundamental flaw is that he’s too wholesome and too "whitebread" compared to Batman or Wolverine (whose characters are agreeably edgyer and darker than Superman.)

If you ask me, and I know you didn’t, Superman just needs to face some enemies who truly challenge him physically and mentally. What ever they plan to do with the franchise, I hope they don’t try to change the character too much to appeal to this so-called next generation of movie goers. All they need is a great story line, lots of action, and not to stray too far from the original mythology. I still am worried about where they’ll take the next installment.

Tell us what you think about Superman Returns and the future of the franchise..Is he going to "fly" again??

Put your two cents in here!

Well, If you haven’t heard by now they’re probably going to reboot Superman. I hadn’t reported it until now because I was in a state of denial, but it looks like it’s really going to happen. This means a new cast of characters (most likely) and an even farther release date. (*sigh*)

However, in an interview with Fresh Ink’s Blair Butler, comic book author Mark Millar said he’d like to make a trilogy of films for this re-booted Superman series, and it might happen. Millar’s vision for a new Superman:

"I’ve had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year." Millar said.

Millar says there’s nothing firm yet, but he hopes to get word over the next few weeks. The might start shooting next Summer!

Superman: Man of Steel….Where art thou??

Brandon Routh revealed that Superman: The Man of Steel should go into production from Warner Brothers soon. Routh spoke to Hollywood.com about his upcoming appearance in Fear Itself, and revealed what the current plans are for the next film featuring the Last Son of Krypton.

Asked if Justice League: Mortal would be out before Superman: The Man of Steel, Routh responded "Oh, I think it seems as though that’s not happening, it’s on the back burner right now so it’s just Man of Steel now." In response to the delay between the two films, Routh said "I know, they’re busy writing a script and then I trust we’ll be starting next year, early next year. That’s my timeline anyway."

Few details are currently available for Superman: The Man of Steel, but it is known that Brandon Routh will return to his role as the Man of Steel and Bryan Singer will be back to direct. Kevin Spacey has also expressed an interest in returning as Lex Luthor.

New love interest for the Man of Steel?

Indian actress Priyanaka Chopra may be going from Bollywood to Metropolis if the latest rumblings are to be believed.

According a report in Zee News, Chopra has been offered the role of Superman’s love interest in Superman: The Man of Steel.

Officially, Chopra and the studios aren’t saying anything, but according to sources the actress has been offered the role and has almost accepted.

The role will be that of a lady scientist who will be romantically involved with the Man of Steel.

And what about Lois Lane? Well, remember that in Superman Returns, it was established that Lois was engaged to another man, who she assumed was the father of her son.

John Williams SCORES Again!! (maybe)

The legendary film-composer John Williams, according to their sources, is lined up to do the music for the Superman Returns sequel Superman: Man of Steel.

A few weeks back, ScreenRant.com received word that Williams was indeed meeting with Warner Brothers about possibly working on the music for Man of Steel.

Of course, the Superman sequel is still in early stages of development – director Bryan Singer and the studio are meeting with writers on the project. And there are those who don’t think it’ll get made to begin with.

But the fact that the Globe brought it up on their own is a bit too coincidental.

Having said that, this is not set in stone and we are looking further into the matter…

Really cool or April Fool??!

Posted by SOS Staff On April - 1 - 2008

So I found this image circulating around the various Superman related sites out there and it looks pretty real to me. However, I seriously doubt that they got Brandon Routh and Christian Bale signed and shooting scenes already for the Justice League Movie. So I will put it up to a vote (primarily because I can’t decide for myself) if this photo is legit or merely a bad April Fools joke. You be the judge….

Is this photo the real deal??!
Absolutely positively not!
Looks real to me but what do I know?
Fake! but someone deserves an A+ for their photoshop skills!
I’m still undecided
It has to be real! Why would the internet community lie to me??

Superman Returns again?

Posted by SOS Staff On April - 1 - 2008

Empire Online sat down with Bryan Singer earlier this month and he had this to say about the myths and facts concerning the next Superman movie:

"That movie made $400 million!" Singer says incredulously [about the first film]. "I don’t know what constitutes under-performing these days…Look, I can understand, I suppose, what some people mean. Perhaps some people went in with the expectation of it being like an X-Men film, and Superman is a tougher character than that. Especially bringing him back. It really goes back to the fact that you can only please some of the people some of the time. But, yes, I’m just getting back with writers after the strike. We’re just in the development phase. I’m starting to develop a sequel…with the intention of directing it."

Singer knows that there was some negative reaction to the fact that the first film focused more on story at the expense of action and is looking to redress that next time.

“The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film,” he says. “I’ll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there’s really an opportunity to up the threat levels…Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon? Well, I’m going to wake them up!” He may be joking about the unrelenting terror.

We have to say, we actually enjoyed a huge amount about Superman Returns. Brandon Routh made a terrific Superman and Clark Kent and Singer clearly cared about the characters. It was light on action, so it would be great to see a sequel in which we get to actually experience what Supes can really do.
