Here is the official press release:
HENRY CAVILL WILL TAKE ON THE DUAL ROLE OF CLARK KENT / SUPERMAN IN THE NEW FILM FROM WARNER BROS. PICTURES AND LEGENDARY PICTURES
BURBANK, CA, January 30, 2011 – Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Henry Cavill has won the coveted role of Superman, the iconic superhero.
The film will be directed by Zack Snyder, who stated,
“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Cavill recently wrapped production on “The Cold Light of Day” and stars in the upcoming “Immortals,” opening this fall.
Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
CW late Thursday pulled the plug on plans to air "Smallville" and "Supernatural" Friday night and will instead rerun the same original episodes of "Vampire Diaries" and "Nikita" that will have aired just one night earlier.
This had serious students of TV – and fans of all of the above series – scratching their heads in wonder.
Here's what's going on.
"Vampire Diaries" and "Nikita" are returning with original episodes to CW's schedule Thursday night. You may have read here in the TV Column about the marketing campaign CW deployed to get out the word about the return of "Vampire Diaries" – the network's No. 1 show among viewers in age brackets it covets. The campaign urges viewers to "Catch VD." Do you have any idea how much a "Catch VD" campaign costs?
Anyway, two CW stations in important TV markets plan to preempt the much ballyhooed return of "Vampire Diaries" tonight. One is Chicago – the third biggest TV market in the country, behind only New York and Los Angeles. In Chicago, "VD" has been KO'd by a Chicago mayoral debate.
The other market is Baltimore, the country's 26th largest TV market. in Baltimore, "VD" is being preempted by ACC–basketball, that is.
Also figuring into CW's thinking: Thursday night marks the return of "Vampire Diaries" — against ratings behemoth "American Idol."
Add these factors together and the folks at CW decided was that "VD" and "Nikita" could use a second consecutive night of viewer sampling. So, Friday's episodes of "Smallville" and "Supernatural" will be moved to next week. Because, let's face it, fans of those shows are so fanatical they'll watch them a week late. Still thank you CW for the one day notice!

Is Lionel Luthor’s “resurrection” a big story that Lois digs into?
I’m just starting to work on something that has to do with Lionel and uncovering what’s going on there. He has another arc going with some of the other characters, so I haven’t gotten to work with him specifically yet.
How will Lois intersect with Clark's destiny?
You’re going to see fun little snippets about how Lois helps hide his identity and work on a “new look.” It’s funny, because it’s just an overblown idea of what women do in marriages anyway. She thinks, “OK, if you’re going to do this, if you want to make this work, this is what we need to do….” But she still stops at nothing, goes off on her own, investigates things, and gets in trouble – as usual! It’s all good.
What is Lois’ take on Chloe’s return?
Lois is just happy she’s back. Chloe is like a sister to her, so she’s happy she’s there and she wants her to be safe. It’s unconditional love, like, “You don’t need to tell me everything you’re doing, but be careful.”

Wonder Woman will fly this pilot season after all. New NBC entertainment president Bob Greenblatt capped a day of high-profile pilot pickups with a surprise order to David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman reboot. Additionally, he formally greenlighted another hourlong project from an A-list showrunner, Michael Patrick King's Mann's World. Both shows hail from Warner Bros. TV. Meanwhile, the commitment to the J.J. Abrams/WBTV-produced drama Odd Jobs starring Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn, whose script came in very late, is being rolled to next season when it will be applied to the same or new Bad Robot project. And Greenblatt has passed on the Josh Schwartz/WBTV supernatural drama Ghost Angeles starring Rachel Bilson.

Every wondered why Superman has such disdain for Lex Luthor? Well, it's because Lex refused to show up in a very pivotal time in his life where he was ready to ascend from Clark the Blur to Superman. Posted three days ago (The 14th of January) via his Twitter account, Rosenbaum denied the rumors of any talks between himself and the Smallville producers….
…You guys sure you want him back??!
