Legion of Superheroes – Season 2 breakdown

Posted by SOS Staff On September - 17 - 2007

"Legion of Super Heroes" premieres September 22 at 11:00 a.m. ET/PT as part of the Kids’ WB! Lineup on The CW Network with a two-part episode entitled "The Man From the Edge of Tomorrow" (the finale airs Sept. 29).

In the episode, we learn that in the 41st century, the universe will be terrorized by a warrior named Imperiex. The only person standing in the way of his plans for domination is a clone of the original Superman. But unable to defeat Imperiex and his vast army alone, the clone travels to the 31st century to recruit history’s greatest super hero team, the Legion, to help fight this threat.

Wizard Magazine hailed Legion of Super Heroes as the 2006-2007 season’s "Best Animated Series." So how do you go higher when you’re already at the top?
You add more of everything. You go big and then go bigger. You take "super" and double it.

Start with a second Superman, add an incomprehensibly undefeatable nemesis, then toss in endearing new cast members in over-the-top adventures and you have the recipe for the highly-anticipated second season of Legion of Super Heroes.

The new campaign of LOSH finds the group fulfilling their collective destiny, each member elevating his skills to new levels just in time to face even greater challenges. In an ironic turn of déjà vu, Future Superman (a clone who goes by the name "Kell-El") arrives to recruit the Legion to travel to the 41st century to help defeat Imperiex, a destroyer of galaxies from the rich annals of DC Comics. But Imperiex turns the tables on the gang, traveling back to the 31st century to crush the Legion’s headquarters and free all of the LOSH’s deadliest enemies, thus creating an army of super villains.

While occasionally criss-crossing centuries, the focal point of LOSH Season 2 is on the two Supermans and their attempts to end the reign of terror brought on by Imperiex. As opposed to his formative days during the first season, Superman has returned from the 21st century far better developed with greater physical prowess and utilization of his powers. Kell-El is actually a clone of Superman, however Kell-El has been created using Superman’s DNA along with alien DNA thus forming a new Superman with exciting new powers and a different form of weakness.

Along the way, the LOSH provides the perfect complement of heroics and comedy to the efforts of the Supermans. The Legion members’ journey include the discovery of old and lost relatives with imperiled results. The LOSH even expands (and sometimes contracts) during the new season, most notably with the addition of an intriguing new Legion member, Chameleon Boy.

Renowned voice actor Yuri Lowenthal draws double duty in LOSH Season 2 as the voice of both Classic and Future Superman. His villainous foil, Imperiex, is blessed with the vocal stylings of sci-fi veteran Phil Morris, most recently seen as Martian Manhunter on "Smallville." An admitted comic book fanatic, Morris’ credits range from a notable turn on "Seinfeld" and frequent guest roles across primetime television ("CSI: Miami," "NCIS," "Will & Grace," "JAG") to constant voice work in feature film and television animation. Alex Polinsky ("Charles in Charge") continues to expand his career into animation voiceovers as the newest member of LOSH, Chameleon Boy.

Two Supermans. One incredible villain. All new adventures for a popular band of heroes. The "best" is getting better!!

The CW’s Official Description: "Kara"
Airs October 4, 2007 on The CW

CLARK MEETS HIS COUSIN KARA KENT AND VISITS JOR-EL — Clark (Tom Welling) and Lois (Erica Durance) discover Kara’s (Laura Vandervoort) spaceship but before they can open it, Kara appears and knocks Lois out. Clark is shocked after Kara tells him she is there to protect baby Kal-El. Despite Kara’s appearance, a despondent Clark decides that without Lana (Kristin Kreuk) there is nothing keeping him in Smallville, and heads to the Fortress of Solitude to begin his training as a superhero.

However, Jor-El tells him Kara’s father – Zor-El, who is Jor-El’s brother – is evil and Kara is dangerous, therefore Clark must stay in Smallville to find out why she came to Earth. Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) makes a stunning discovery regarding Lana and Project 33.1. Allison Mack, Aaron Ashmore and John Glover also star. James Conway directed the pilot written by Todd Slavkin & Darren Swimmer

EXCLUSIVE: AL GOUGH REVEALS THE SECRETS OF SEASON 7 OF ‘SMALLVILLE’

iF Magazine answers the burning questions: Is former Supergirl Helen Slater playing Clark Kent’s real mom, who is Dean Cain’s Dr. Knox and will there be a Season 8?

Teaser video of ‘Smallville’ season seven

iF: Among the guest stars announced for next season is Helen Slater, who’s been said to be playing "Kara’s aunt", and since in the comics Kara is Kal-el’s only cousin, doesn’t that mean that Slater is playing none other than Clark’s mother Lara?

GOUGH: Helen Slater will indeed be playing Lara in a series of flashbacks in Episode 6, and that may not be her only appearance this season!

iF: Dean Cain is also guesting this season, playing a character named Dr. Knox – friend, foe, or somewhere in-between?

GOUGH: Dean is definitely playing a foe. He is actually shooting his episode as I write this and he not only looks fantastic, but he really is a terrific actor as well.

iF: Phil Morris’ Martian Manhunter character will be appearing in quite a few of the next season’s early episode – are there plans to make him a semi-regular? And will we be learning more about him as the season progresses?

GOUGH: Martian Manhunter will remain a guest star, and we’ll learn more about him, but in our discussions with Phil, we all agree, the more mysterious and enigmatic the character remains, the better.

iF: Are Annette O’Toole and Michael Rosenbaum definitely leaving after this season?

GOUGH: Annette O’Toole is no longer a series regular, and we hope to bring Michael back for one more season after this one in some capacity.

iF: Any plans to bring back the proto-Justice League next season?

GOUGH: You won’t see the whole JLA gang again, but we will see Oliver Queen/GA sometime in the middle of the season with — hopefully — a new JLAer we haven’t met yet on the show.

iF: Has their been early talk of an eight season, or is it still a wait and see proposition?

GOUGH: We would all very much like a season 8, and that in our minds, would be the last season. But that will depend on many factors, not the least of which is ratings, so PLEASE KEEP WATCHING!

While exploring on the planet Krypton with its famous cities and futuristic society, Anderson will also develop familiar characters with new depth. Superman’s parents’ epic love story will culminate in the decision to save their only child by sending him away. Brainiac, the Kyptonian genius who later returned to terrorize Superman, will struggle between good and evil. And, Superman’s long–time villain General Zod will lead an early uprising on Krypton.

Justice League movie may have some familiar faces

Posted by SOS Staff On August - 26 - 2007

To some fans, the Justice League is the pinnacle of the DC Comics franchise where the greatest comic-book legends unite in order to deliver justice wherever it is needed. But with the JLA making its way to the big screen, fans have been desperate to know if the project will have any connection to the pre-existing Batman and Superman franchises which are already hits at the box office.
It looks like there will be a few nods to those universes, but according to IESB, both Christian Bale and Brandon Routh are out of the running for the project and producers are looking towards a slightly younger team to take on the roles of Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent. And for the role of the corn-fed Kansas hero, the next big-screen Superman may be more familiar than fans expect.

“Smallville’s” own Tom Welling is said to be donning a cape and tights to finally bring his take on Superman to the big screen. And joining him will be some flashy motion capture effects for the One-Man Army Corps cyborgs.

“Yes that’s right, Tom Welling, TV’s Clark Kent, has been approached to take up the Superman role in the Justice League film,” the site said. “This has been a hope of ‘Smallville’ fans for years and all indications are that WB has finally heard the call.”

IESB.net has already contacted Welling’s agent in order to confirm the information but were immediately transferring to PR department of theatrical releases who refused to comment which has the site convinced of his involvement. Al Gough, executive producer for “Smallville” has flatly denied the story.

If the reports are true, it may mean some juggling of his current schedule for “Smallville” when the movie goes into production in April.
