And what about Lois Lane? Well, remember that in Superman Returns, it was established that Lois was engaged to another man, who she assumed was the father of her son.
Few details are currently available for Superman: The Man of Steel, but it is known that Brandon Routh will return to his role as the Man of Steel and Bryan Singer will be back to direct. Kevin Spacey has also expressed an interest in returning as Lex Luthor. |

Bizzaro Am Sports Celeb?

The New York Yankees sucking wind at the bottom of the AL East. The once-crappy Tampa Bay Devil Rays near the top of it. All that’s needed to make sense of this bizarro baseball season is … Bizarro!
DC Comics will oblige, and nail a first in the comics powerhouse’s storied history, when the backward-talking, anti-Superman antihero lands on the cover of Sports Illustrated May 26. |

of the sports magazine! And no, Shaq’s bicep tattoo of the Superman symbol doesn’t count. The occasion for Bizarro’s clearly confused entrance is Major League Baseball’s topsy-turvy 2008 season. DC Comics has literalized this perceived imbalance for the cover image (pictured, right) as a deathmatch between Devil Rays slugger Carl Crawford and Yankees golden boy Derek Jeter, whose seems about to have his spine broken before he’s thrown into the nosebleeds. For Yankees haters around the globe, this might be the best cover Sports Illustrated has ever published. The eye-catching image was penned by artist Mark Bagley, who’s done the same for Marvel’s Spider-Man and Thunderbolts franchises. He’s currently at work with writer Kurt Busiek on Trinity, a new series due out in June that is dedicated to DC’s Big Three: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman |

The legendary film-composer John Williams, according to their sources, is lined up to do the music for the Superman Returns sequel Superman: Man of Steel. A few weeks back, ScreenRant.com received word that Williams was indeed meeting with Warner Brothers about possibly working on the music for Man of Steel. Of course, the Superman sequel is still in early stages of development – director Bryan Singer and the studio are meeting with writers on the project. And there are those who don’t think it’ll get made to begin with. But the fact that the Globe brought it up on their own is a bit too coincidental. Having said that, this is not set in stone and we are looking further into the matter… |

First Lionel then Lex and now Kara?! Will there be anyone left in Season 8 of Smallville??
|
(TV Guide) You may have been surprised to see Laura Vandervoort’s name omitted from the Smallville cast announcement for season 8 at the CW Upfronts. If so, you weren’t the only one.
"They announced the cast… and I’m not a part of it," Vandervoort tells me, letting out a self-effacing laugh. "We were all surprised when they chose not to bring me back as a regular, but I’m sure I’ll be back for one or two [episodes]!"
Once upon a time it was rumoured in fan circles she could be destined for her own show, but for now it looks like Kara will be pre-occupied somewhere else. As for her Earth alter ego, Laura is currently in Hawaii shooting Into The Blue 2 the follow up to the Jessica Alba, bikini-and-not-much-else flick.
Mike Ausiello reported the CW passed on Justin Hartley’s pilot The Austin Golden Hour which naturally prompted rumours the Smallville producers were eager to have Hartley return, especially since losing a lot of principal cast members. We’ll have to wait and see on that. |

City of Metropolis, Illinois Attempts Superman-Themed World Record
|
Metropolis, Illinois -On Sunday June 15th 2008, Superman fans from around the globe will attempt to set an official Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Superman” during the 30th Annual Superman Celebration in Metropolis, Illinois.
Every June, tens of thousands of Superman fans descend on the city of Metropolis, Illinois to celebrate the “Man of Steel”. This year (June 12th to 15th, 2008) Superman fans will be given the opportunity to participate in a first of its kind, World Record setting event. While this record has never been attempted before, the Guinness Corporation set the parameter of at least 100 participants in approved costumes.

On Sunday afternoon (June 15th), participants will be required to meet at the designated area in town to sign in and have their costumes approved. At 5:00pm, the participants will be counted, gathered into an area at the base of the famous 15’ tall bronze statue of Superman in the center of town and documented for the Guinness World Record Corporation.
“This is a one of a kind opportunity for any Superman enthusiast. We wanted to end the 30th Annual Celebration with a bang and I definitely think this is what we were looking for,” said Karla Ogle, Chairman of the 30th Annual Superman Celebration.
Steven Kirk from Los Angeles, California approached the city with the idea. “It’s Superman’s 70th birthday, the 30th Superman Celebration in Metropolis, the 30th anniversary of the release of “Superman the Movie” and the 60th anniversary of the first appearance of Noel Neill as reporter Lois Lane. When you’re throwing a party that big, I though a Guinness World Record would be some sweet icing on Superman’s birthday cake,” Kirk said.
The World Record attempt is open to men, women and children wearing a complete Superman costume consisting of a blue bodysuit, red cape, red trunks, red boots (or spats), yellow belt, and the famous red and yellow “S” logo on the chest. The costumes can either be store-bought or home made, but must be approved in advance to make sure they meet the stringent requirements set by the Guinness World Record Corporation for this event.
The four-day Metropolis Superman Celebration also includes an all-star lineup of Superman related celebrities (Actor Ned Beatty from “Superman I & II”, “Smallville’s” Allison Mack and the original Lois Lane, Noel Neill), comic book artists, vendors, family-friendly events and music.

Two Jump Ship, Two come aboard for Season 8 of Smallville
|
Along with the news that original cast members Kristin Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum decided not to renew their Smallville contracts for next season, came word of two new characters — both villains — who will join the series this September when the show returns for an eighth year. Doomsday, we can only guess, will be Clark’s ultimate challenge, as he’s known in the DC Comics universe to be the only character to have killed Superman. And the second fresh nemesis will present Mr. Kent with other problems, seeing as she is intelligent, manipulative and they’ll have a mutual attraction. No additional information was provided.
However, t he female villain will be named Tess. In her late-20s, smokin’ hot and incredibly strong, Tess will take aggressive control of Lex’s estate in his absence. While she’s perfectly capable of making her own decisions, she will always differ to Lex’s wishes, as she’s completely devoted to him. She could prove to be his greatest asset, as she possesses numerous talents, including a power of persuasion that even Clark can’t resist. Still, she knows something isn’t right, as she can’t recall any of her life before meeting Lex, which leads me to believe that he’s got her under some sort of spell.
And the new dude they’re calling Doomsday? I’m hearing he’ll go by the name of Davis Bloome. A good-looking 20-something, he’ll tend bar at a trendy Metropolis club, and be popular with the ladies. Though seemingly easy-going and well-adjusted, he will battle a deep sense of insecurity and loneliness that leads to an unmistakably evil, dark side.
Well it looks like they’re doing again! They take a larger than life character (like Doomsday) and completely water him down into an awful human facsmile. With two major characters leaving and two shady (at best) arriving. I can only pray for the survival of the 8th season of Smallville. What do you guys think? Is season 8 gonna suck or what? |
