First Earth 2 Superman Concept Drawing

Posted by SOS Staff On March - 3 - 2012

"Coming in May, DC COMICS-THE NEW 52 “Second Wave” will literally expand the world-building efforts of the comprehensive publishing initiative. With the addition of a parallel Earth that features prominently into both EARTH 2 and WORLDS’ FINEST, the developing narrative will encompass new heroes from distinctly different backgrounds, building on the shared universe in some surprising ways. “Mourning the death of his beloved, Superman carries both a sadness in his heart along with the weight of Earth 2′s welfare upon on his shoulders, while never showing this and seeming to all that he is this world’s peerless champion,” said EARTH 2 writer James Robinson. “What would you have to do to teach Superman to kill?” asks EARTH 2 editor Pat McCallum. “He’s endured the loss of his home world, and now the Last Son of Krypton must weather the death of his soul mate Lois Lane. Just how far can you bend the Man of Steel before he breaks?”

Here’s a first look at the Superman of EARTH 2, designed by Jim Lee."

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 27 - 2012

A new era begins with the debut of the oversized, monthly BATMAN BEYOND UNLIMITED, featuring the print debut of the new Justice League Beyond!

In the Batman Beyond chapter, legendary Batman artist Norm Breyfogle returns to draw the Dark Knight of the future with best-selling writer Adam Beechen. In “10,000 Clowns,” an onslaught of new Jokerz is plaguing Gotham City – and the implications of this chaotic clown menace could have disastrous consequences for Terry McGinnis and Bruce Wayne! And the debut of the Justice League Beyond is here, courtesy of the BATMAN: STREETS OF GOTHAM art team of Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs, as the first two digital-first chapters are available in print for the first time! Preview of ‘Legion: Secret Origins’

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 25 - 2012

Last we saw the Legionnaires, they decided that they needed to recruit the help of Superman to help defeat the evil attacking their homeworlds.

In LEGION: SECRET ORIGIN #5, the team finds themselves in the midst of war. And as if that wasn’t enough, they become frozen in both space and time. Will they be able to defeat the alien forces trapping them in time to find out for themselves if the legends about the Man of Steel are true? Or will the Legionnaires be doomed for good?

On sale next Wednesday, don’t miss the penultimate issue of LEGION: SECRET ORIGIN, written by Paul Levitz and featuring art by Chris Batista and Marc Deering.

Robert Downy Jr. As Lex Luthor? Almost was..

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 20 - 2012

In an interview with IndieWire.com, director McG reveals that Robert Downey Jr. was actually cast to play Lex Luthor in his never-made Superman movie.

McG says no final casting decisions had been made on the film, though he did mention one name that, we admit, we hadn't heard before. "We had Robert Downey Jr. locked up to be Lex Luthor, which I think would have been extraordinary," McG enthused. But his pick for the Big Blue Boyscout is actually much less of a surprise. "Ironically, we liked Henry Cavill a lot, but we hadn't cast him yet," he says of the actor currently wearing the tights in the upcoming "Man Of Steel." "J.J. wrote the script, and we got that to a really good place in the end," he says of the film, the first in a proposed trilogy. "But I'm to blame for [the film not happening]." It's interesting to hear that Henry Cavill was also close to being McG's choice to play Superman all those years ago.

Superman as Mr. Potato Head? Thanks Hasbro!

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 12 - 2012

Today at Toy Fair in New York City, new Mr. Potato Head collectible figures of Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are making their debut courtesy of Warner Bros. Consumer Products and PPW Toys, under a licensing agreement with Hasbro. It marks the first time DC Comics characters are receiving the Potato Head treatment.

The first one being released is Batman (aka "The Caped Cru-tater") this summer, timed to the release of The Dark Knight Rises in theaters July 20. Superman — with his trademark twirl of hair — and Wonder Woman, who is sporting a classic costume complete with truth lasso, will be available during the holiday season.

Even better for comic-book fans: More heroes and some villains from the DC Universe are being planned for release in 2013.

This year is the 60th anniversary of Mr. Potato Head, which has become a classic toy over the decades with its interchangeable limbs and accessories — a feature the DC Comics toys will have, as well.

Mr. Potato Head has made its way into many geek-friendly properties in recent years. There has been a popular line of Star Wars Potato Heads in stores and at Disney theme parks, Indiana Jones and Transformers spuds, and other superhero Potato Heads based on Iron Man and Spider-Man.

More Info on Smallville Season 11! (The Comicbook that is) :/

Posted by SOS Staff On February - 10 - 2012

As previously mentioned, DC Entertainment will be releasing a comic book series called "Smallville Season 11", written by comic book writer and former Smallville scribe Bryan Q. Miller.  However, there was some stuff fans might want to know:

This comic book series will pick up 6 months after Clark Kent donned the cape and blue suit and saved the world from the invasion of Apokalips. THIS WILL NOT PICK UP SEVEN YEARS IN THE FUTURE WHERE THE SERIES ENDED! There will also be former friends and family members returning in this comic book series including Oliver Queen, Chloe Sullivan, Lex Luthor, General Sam Lane, and many others. Now, the most important thing to remember here is that this will first be released as a DIGITAL SERIES, meaning it will be released online before it is released in print form. It will be released digitally starting April, 13, 2012, with new digital chapters released weekly.
