“Our Hero: Superman on Earth”

Posted by Jared On June - 22 - 2010

"Our Hero: Superman on Earth" is not Tom De Haven's first book about the Man of Steel. However it is his first non-fiction book about Superman. De Haven wrote the widely acclaimed novel "It's Superman!", and returns to the subject material with "Our Hero", but this time from a historical stand point. Where "It's Superman!" was set inside the fictional world of Superman, "Our Hero" examines the creation and continued growth of the Man of Steel in the real world.

De Haven takes a 'no holds barred' approach to examining the stories behind the stories. The book looks at every aspect of the Superman franchise from the character's creation at the hands of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the early comic book days, the radio series, "The Adventures of Superman" on TV, "Super Friends", the ever changing comic books, the Christopher Reeve "Superman" movies, "Lois & Clark" on TV, "Smallville", "Superman Returns", merchandising, and legal battles. De Haven gives his unflinching opinion on all aspects, examining each era/medium in just enough detail while sighting a vast array of external reading material to whet your appetite for more, yet finishing the book feeling satisfied that he'd covered pretty much every aspect of the character's 70 year history without leaving anything out. If you're looking for a book that delves into the history behind Superman over the years, but aren't into reading hefty tomes or encyclopedia-type reference books, "Our Hero: Superman on Earth" is the book for you. It's well worth the read and is an easy book to get through. The book is one long narrative, rather than being broken up into specific chapters, yet it is easy and enjoyable reading.

Details on the extras below on what to expect from the latest DVD set of Smallville from Warner Brothers.

* Kneel Before Zod Featurette: Since the Silver Age, the House of El has been plagued by the disreputable deeds of the Kryptonian villain, Zod. Now Smallville brings this infamous foe face-to-face with earth’s greatest hero, Clark Kent. Over the course of the season, Smallville promises to show us the rise of Zod’s venomous side, key betrayals with our beloved characters, and his rising from Major to General Zod. Ashton Kutcher: The Man of Steel?!

Posted by Jared On June - 16 - 2010

During the press junket for his recently released film "Killers," Kutcher told MTV News that not only did he audition for the role of DC's Man of Steel, he actually tried on Superman's suit.

"I wore the Superman suit," he told MTV News. "I did a screentest in the Superman suit."

While Kutcher wasn't certain which director he auditioned for in the long list of filmmakers who were offered the gig at one point or another ("I forget who it was… I think it was [Brett] Ratner," he said), the actor did share some details about his Lois Lane — and why it's for the best that he didn't get the role.

"There is [footage of my audition out there], with Keri Russell, who was reading Lois [Lane]," he said. "There's me in a Clark Kent outfit, and then there's me in a Superman outfit."

"It did not feel right," he admitted. "I hadn't worked out or done anything right. … I was like a rail with fake muscles. It looked funny."

According to Kutcher, the idea of donning a tight superhero suit isn't something he's really pursuing these days — though if he's given enough prep time, he said he might be able to bring a certain musclebound cartoon hero to the big screen.

"I don't think I could be a superhero that was in tights.

Editorial for the day

What would cause Superman to drink like this??

Have you considered the fact that both his parents are dead, he's the last of his kind because his home planet exploded, his dual identity forces him to live a lie everyday of his life, and finally, the fact that his super-strength makes it near impossible to get laid without killing someone.

So give the guy a break! He's practically a god and he chooses to save people! He could run the show or basically enslave humanity if wanted to..so yeah…is this news??

Christopher Nolan Talks Batman 3 And Superman!

Posted by Jared On June - 5 - 2010
In this months issue of Empire, Christopher Nolan talks about his latest movie Inception. But he also briefly mentions his much discussed but rarely quoted involvement with the Superman reboot as well as a chat he had with David Goyer when they were trying to figure out where to go after The Dark Knight.

He doesn't go into too much detail, and no plot details are revealed, but its nice to hear the notoriously tight lipped director talk about these much anticipated projects…

"..What it is, while David Goyer and myself were putting together the story for another Batman film a few years ago, you know thrashing out where we might move on from the Dark Knight, we got stuck. We were just sitting there idly chatting and he said ”by the way, I think know how you approach Superman".. and he told me his take on it. I thought it was really tremendous. It was the first time I’ve been able to conceive of how you’d address Superman in a modern context I thought it was a really exciting idea. What you have to remember about Batman and Superman is that what makes them the best superhero characters there are, the most beloved after all this time, is the essence of who they were when they were created, when they were first developed. You can’t move too far away from that."

Well it's not much but at least someone is talking about it!, right?
