Ausiello got the scoop on a new character being brought into the series: "Clark’s getting a new partner at the Daily Planet this season, and she’s got some major DC Comics cred. The character’s name is Cat Grant, and my good buddy Walter Wikipedia has all the deets on the currently-being-cast character. (And no worries Clois fans; Cat will serve solely as a comedic foil to Clark. I think.)" Emilie Ullerup (who will play Cat Grant) said "I had a lot of fun with Catherine Grant. I got to be light and bright and bumbling and a bit dorky. Bumbling and dorky are two of my own strong traits. It would be a great character to further explore but I had a blast with what I was given on the one episode." Did you do any research into Catherine's TV and comic book history before shooting the role? "Yeah, but they went in a bit of a different direction with the TV version." If Smallville follows previous storylines in the Superman mythology, Catherine could very well become the third corner of a Lois/Clark/Cat love triangle.

Did you and Tom (Welling) have the kind of on-screen chemistry that you think could lead to Cat Grant becoming a recurring role for you? Emilie then says "I guess we'll see! I had a blast shooting with Tom. He's so relaxed and fun, and I know Erica (Durance) because Kyle (Cassie) worked with her earlier this year… so it would be a blast getting to muck things up for the two of them." |

| Ausiello Files is reporting that Laura Vandervoort is returning to Smallville as Supergirl! It was said that the actress, who left the series after the seventh season, would only return for one episode in the 10th and final season of the show. The site is reporting that Vandervoort's episode is tentatively scheduled to air sometime in October. Vandervoort appeared in 21 episodes as Kara/Supergirl. The site also directed us to an IGN article from a few weeks back which indicated that another Smallville alum, John Schneider, would return in the Season 10 premiere episode. |

The site wouldn't give any details of his return, since he died in Season 5, but it was also said that he was expected to appear in at least one other episode during the season as well. |

The word "miraculous" scarcely describes the survival of a Santa Maria, California police officer who wrapped his Ford Police Interceptor around a tree Sunday morning. It's what the local Police Chief calls the "worst accident he's seen in 35 years."
Sunday was a busy day for the members of the Santa Maria Police Department, starting with a police chase that resulted in a stolen car crashing into a first grade classroom of a local school. But that's not where this amazing crash happened.
Hours later, Officer Damon Badnell was responding to an officer involved in a foot pursuit of a burglary suspect when he lost control of his vehicle on a slippery road. The momentum wrapped the vehicle around the tree, nearly bisecting the Ford Crown Victoria.
Officer Badnell, who recently was awarded for stopping the most drunk drivers, has a few broken bones but doctors are hopeful about his recovery.
