They developed the Superman mythology for television, but now "Smallville" creators have gone up, up and away, leaving the series far behind.
In a mildly shocking announcement, Al Gough and Miles Millar have confirmed that they will depart "Smallville" after the conclusion of the current seventh season, despite The CW picking the series up for yet another year. No real reason for their exit has been announced, however in their love letter to fans the dynamic duo have said only that it is time for them to move on and also thanked the entire cast and crew for their efforts over the years, as well as the viewers who helped turn the series into such a success.
"Over the last seven years we have had the honor of working with a remarkable team of people here in Los Angeles and in Vancouver," the two said in an open letter to the fans. "We have been blessed with a wonderful cast who we have watched mature with admiration and affection. We have been rewarded with a fan base that is as loyal as it is vocal.

Both Gough and Millar said they were proud of the work they did on "Smallville," and that they accomplished everything they set out to do on the show without ever compromising their vision.
"We leave knowing that ‘Smallivlle’ is the longest-running comic book-based series of all time," they said. "The show was featured on the covers of Rolling Stone, Mad Magazine, TV Guide and Entertainment Weekly. The pilot had the highest-rated premiere in the history of The WB."
Gough and Millar haven’t cleared out of their offices just yet, but The CW has already been looking for replacements for the two, deciding on elevating Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson to leadership roles on the show.
"Al Gough and Miles Millar have been great partners and instrumental in the development and success of ‘Smallville,’" a CW representative said. Swimmer and company "have been writing for the show for the past six seasons, and as producers for the last four years. They have played an integral role in the ongoing creative evolution of the series. As showrunners, they will continue to deliver the compelling storyline that ‘Smallville’ fans have come to expect and love. |

Superman related names in America
There’s an interesting site called www. howmanyofme. com which lets you search for names (both first and last names) to see how many people in America go by that name.
According to the site, there are quite a few people with Superman related names in America:
Clark Kent = 7
Lois Lane = 180
Jimmy Olsen = 59
Perry White = 216
Lana Lang = 9
Pete Ross = 47
Interestingly, “Luthor” is not a surname used by anyone in America.

Really cool or April Fool??!
|
So I found this image circulating around the various Superman related sites out there and it looks pretty real to me. However, I seriously doubt that they got Brandon Routh and Christian Bale signed and shooting scenes already for the Justice League Movie. So I will put it up to a vote (primarily because I can’t decide for myself) if this photo is legit or merely a bad April Fools joke. You be the judge….

Superman Returns again?
|
Empire Online sat down with Bryan Singer earlier this month and he had this to say about the myths and facts concerning the next Superman movie:
"That movie made $400 million!" Singer says incredulously [about the first film]. "I don’t know what constitutes under-performing these days…Look, I can understand, I suppose, what some people mean. Perhaps some people went in with the expectation of it being like an X-Men film, and Superman is a tougher character than that. Especially bringing him back. It really goes back to the fact that you can only please some of the people some of the time. But, yes, I’m just getting back with writers after the strike. We’re just in the development phase. I’m starting to develop a sequel…with the intention of directing it." |
|

|
Singer knows that there was some negative reaction to the fact that the first film focused more on story at the expense of action and is looking to redress that next time.
“The first one was a romantic film and a nostalgic film,” he says. “I’ll be the first person to own up to that without making any apologies for it. I knew it was going to be that from the outset. And now that the characters are established, there’s really an opportunity to up the threat levels…Clearly there’ll be a body count [laughs]. From frame one, it will be unrelenting terror! All those teenage girls who found the movie and mooned over James Marsden or Brandon? Well, I’m going to wake them up!” He may be joking about the unrelenting terror.
We have to say, we actually enjoyed a huge amount about Superman Returns. Brandon Routh made a terrific Superman and Clark Kent and Singer clearly cared about the characters. It was light on action, so it would be great to see a sequel in which we get to actually experience what Supes can really do. |
